Syft client seems to come to a clutch during logging in, as a result of synchronous / blocking log in mechanism

I'm interested in working on this issue.

Before I dive in, I have a few questions:

• Where in the codebase does the login flow happen? (Any pointers to the relevant files/functions would be helpful)
• Is the goal to make the login asynchronous (non-blocking), or are there other optimizations being considered?
• Are there any specific benchmarks or expectations for how fast login should be?
