Regression: line item attributes no longer visible after placing an order

After I did a cart transform expand operation with new attributes set on the sub items, the attributes are visible on checkout, but no longer after checkout such as in order confirmation or my account page, which is a huge regression and a very surprising behavior. I need the attributes to show details to customers for each subcomponents such as embroidery info.

On checkout page it shows attributes on line components:

but not on order confirmation email or order status:

It used to show the same level of details as checkout on order status page, but not anymore. This is very high priority for us because we are scheduled to have this launch next month and this bug will make us to have to pause embroidery functinality!
