Description
Please update the GitHub Copilot app's built-in browser so that it meets the current compatibility requirements of commonly used workplace web applications.
For example, opening a Slack message link in the built-in browser displays:
This browser is no longer supported
This prevents the requested Slack content from loading and interrupts the workflow of browsing, authenticating, and sharing relevant context with Copilot within the app.
Although Slack is the example documented here, the broader request is to ensure reliable compatibility with widely adopted collaboration and productivity tools, not just address this individual website.
Requested improvement
- Keep the embedded browser engine current with modern web standards and browser-support requirements.
- Improve compatibility with commonly used workplace web apps, including sign-in and navigation where embedded browsing is supported.
- Where a website explicitly restricts embedded browsers, provide a clear explanation and an option to open it in the system browser.
The exact cause of Slack's compatibility warning still needs investigation; the warning alone does not establish that the browser engine is outdated.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the GitHub Copilot app and start or open a chat.
- Provide a Slack message permalink:
- Ask Copilot: "Open this Slack message in your built-in browser. I'll sign in if required."
- Observe the unsupported-browser warning in the built-in browser panel.
Expected behavior
Commonly used workplace web applications load and function reliably in the built-in browser, allowing users to complete supported authentication flows and share relevant content with Copilot without switching applications.
Actual behavior
Slack displays "This browser is no longer supported" and directs the user to a supported browser or the Slack desktop app. The requested message does not load.
