Depending on what desktop environment you're using, the Morewaita icon theme has a MIME type and .xml entry for .pd files

puredata-gui and purr-data install their MIME associations in the /usr/lib/mime/packages/$package-name directory. That way all desktop environments are advised.

Oh you're asking for plugdata to include a MIME association for their native packages? Sorry, I've been only using nightly builds, but you can make your own association and just have it in ~/.local/share/mime/packages/x-puredata.xml, regardless of distro and DE:

This could/should be added to the OBS builds, but these are not done by the project directly.

If this file was in the regular Linux builds there should be some added instructions on how to put it in the path.
