Describe the bug
When I open the app it just sits there with a spinner, saying "Scanning library..."

Steps to reproduce
Open the app.

Expected behaviour
I hope that the app will eventually finish scanning and open..

Actual behaviour
Scanning library, never finishes

Device info

• Android: 15, One UI 8.0
• Device model: S23U
• Flac-R version (check the info tab): 0.4.8

Audio file info

• File format (e.g. .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .aac): mainly mp3, a few .FLAC

Hello @MrBertie , thanks for taking an interest in Flac-R! Just a few questions to help narrow down the problem.

1: Did you follow the on-boarding steps and grant the necessary permissions, e.g. "All files access" and "Music and audio"?

2: How large is your library? (roughly how many files / total size) a very large collection could just be taking a long time, but if it's been over a few minutes it's likely stuck.

3: Where are your files stored? Internal storage, an SD card, or a cloud-synced folder (e.g. Google Photos/Drive offline)?

4: Does it happen with a smaller folder? If you point the app at a directory with just a handful of files, does it scan successfully?

5: Any files with unusual characters in their filenames or paths? Emoji, special punctuation, very long paths, etc. can sometimes cause parsers to hang.

If you did all that and the issue is still present, some screenshots or, if you're comfortable with it, ADB logcat output would help, thanks!

Thank you for the prompt reply and good troubleshooting tips. 1. I redid the onboarding process2. Library is pretty large. 178 GB, 31000+ files3. Internal storage 4. I tried a small folder with just a few FLAC albums and that works after a few moments. 5. Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot this.

Regarding applying tags or cover art to an entire album, there is a batch editing mode available. If you press and hold a song, a menu should appear with the option to select additional tracks and edit them together.

Your library is quite large, and since the files scan correctly when tested in a smaller folder, it seems likely that the scanner is struggling with the overall library size rather than any specific files.

As a temporary workaround, I'd recommend working folder by folder. In the meantime, I'll investigate improving support and performance for larger libraries like yours. (potentially a progress bar)

Sorry, my bad. I see now that the multi-select only works in Song mode but not in Album mode. Hello @MrBertie,

You’re right it seems multi-select doesn’t currently work in Album, Artist, or Folder views. That’s a mistake on my side, not intentional. Adding proper batch selection/editing in those views (or a dedicated multi-edit mode) should be a straightforward improvement, and I’ll look into implementing that very soon.

I’m also actively working on adding a progress indicator, as that should help make it clearer whether the scanner is still working or stuck.
