Antigravity Agent stop responding in repositories using Git SHA-256 (extensions.objectFormat=sha256)

We ran into a problem while working with a Git repository configured with SHA-256 object format

We found an issue when using the agent/chat in a repository configure with SHA-256 object format. After converting the repository back to SHA-1, the problem disappeared and the chat/agent started working normally again.

From what I can tell, this looks like a real compatibility issue with Git SHA-256 repositories. A likely cause is that the agent, or one of its Git-related dependencies, still assumes SHA-1-style object IDs or repository behavior.
Since switching back to SHA-1 fixes it, that seems like a strong signal. To narrow it down, it would help to share git --version, git rev-parse --show-object-format, whether the repo was created with SHA-256 from the start, and any logs or error output from the agent.

I can confirm this. It just happened to me right now. Migrating from SHA-1 to SHA-256 (even by creating an empty git history) renders the chat interface a one way blackhole.
The Antigravity language server currently uses a Git library that apparently does not support SHA-256 repositories (it fails with the error core.repositoryformatversion does not support extension: objectformat).

I've investigated the issue with Antigravity on your system. Based on the logs and system state, the "no response" behavior is caused by several internal mismatches in the current build (v1.23.2) you are running from the dev
repository.

Root Causes Identified:

1. Missing AI Services & Commands: The Antigravity extension and core application are failing to register critical services.

   • The logs explicitly show: [error] command 'workbench.action.chat.newChat' not found and [error] ooe depends on UNKNOWN service agentSessions.
   • The extension's manifest (package.json) references commands like antigravity.prioritized.chat.open in menus/keybindings, but they are missing from the actual command definitions. This prevents the chat UI from
     initializing or responding.

2. Git sha256 Incompatibility: Your current repository (registry-tool) uses the sha256 object format.

   • Antigravity's language server uses go-git/5.x, which does not yet support the extensions.objectformat=sha256 setting.
   • The logs are flooded with: core.repositoryformatversion does not support extension: objectformat, which causes workspace indexing to fail or hang.

3. Analytics Service Failure: The tool is failing to start its internal analytics service (antigravityAnalytics), which appears to be a blocker for other extension management tasks.

Recommendations:

• Temporary Workaround: Since Gemini CLI is working correctly (as it supports the sha256 format and has a stable service registration), I recommend using it for your prompts while Antigravity is in this state.
• Downgrade Antigravity: You are currently on a dev build. You might have better results by downgrading to a previous version (e.g., 1.22.2) if available in your cache, or switching to a stable update channel if one exists.
• Git Format: If you need to use Antigravity specifically with this codebase, you would unfortunately need a repository using the standard sha1 format, as the current version of Antigravity's Go-based backend cannot read
  sha256 repos.
