What changed

  • adds a clear Continue locally path that opens the complete local cockpit without Cloud authentication
  • remembers that local-first choice across launches
  • keeps Cloud PKCE/token pairing optional and reachable from Settings
  • updates the Desktop README to match the shipped behavior

Root cause

The application shell treated hosted credential presence as authorization to render every screen, even though record, compile, qualify, replay, and teach are local capabilities. This made the free installed product appear to require a Cloud account.

Validation

  • npm run test:ui (26 passed)
  • npm run build
  • 55 focused release/installer/overlay Python tests
  • 164 cockpit/Flow bridge/qualification tests (with sandbox-safe HOME)
  • exact current origin/main Test, Build artifacts, CodeQL, dependency, and secret workflows are green before this change
