What this changes
Ordinary LLM judges previously saved only their final text, parsed answer, and usage in
trace.info["judge"]. That was enough to see a successful verdict, but not enough to understand how the judge was called or why scoring failed. If the provider failed before returning a response, no judge record was written at all. This PR gives ordinary judges a small, typed call record in
Trace.judge_calls. Each record identifies the judge and reuses the existingModelCallshape to capture:The record is added before the provider request starts, so a failed judge call remains visible even when scoring aborts.
Why
A broken judge is a scoring failure, not evidence that the evaluated model gave a bad answer. These changes preserve the distinction between:
The latter failures continue to abort scoring instead of silently becoming a zero reward.
Scope
The implementation continues to use the existing OpenAI client and its normal timeout/retry behavior. It does not add a custom client, retry loop, sampling type, or error hierarchy.
Judge usage is now read from the typed records in the dashboard. Replay clears judge records before rescoring and skips traces that already failed, since replay cannot safely reconstruct every scoring component. Upload conversion includes the judge records under sample
info.Judge prompts are intentionally not copied into traces because they can contain reference answers or other sensitive task data. The structured-output schema is retained because it defines the expected verdict, while the prompt content remains outside the trace.
