The Enter key is not working properly.

Issue

When entering a command, if I type part of it and then press Shift+Enter, the command is submitted instead of a new line being created (Enter).
Also, when I switch to multiline mode, pressing Enter still submits the command.
It does not accept Alt+Enter.
This behaviour differs from that of Aider, so I cannot migrate from Aider.

Assuming you are using a standard terminal:

running cecli --terminal-setup will modify the terminal settings to allow the shift+enter keybinding which most shells do not allow by default. Failing that, ctrl+j is a literal new line in most terminals and keybindings can be changed:

I followed it and ran:

$ cecli --terminal-setup

The new config file in ~/.config contains 'key': 'shift+enter'. With that in place, I ran cecli. The prompt input field showed "Shift+Enter for new line", and "Enter to submit" appeared in the lower-right corner. However, pressing Shift+Enter while typing still submits the command instead of starting a new line.

Setting multiline: true in .cecli.conf.yml didn't help either — it still behaves differently from Aider.

Unfortunately, I'll postpone migrating from Aider for now.

Thank you for your advice. Here are my test results so far.

1. Aider and cecli handle the Enter key differently when interrupting and inputting.
2. In cecli, changing multiline-mode from false to true does not change the Enter key behavior.
3. Aider's Enter key behavior matches https://aider.chat/docs/usage/tips.html#interrupting--inputting
4. cecli's Enter key behavior does not match https://cecli.dev/docs/usage/tips/#tips-interrupting-inputting
5. I understand the challenges with the Shift+Enter function.

What terminal/shell combination do you use? Shift+Enter capture is heavily dependent on what you use in order to conduct the proper configuration override. Multi-line mode is not relevant to the TUI and only matters for the legacy cli mode. The TUI's keybindings are distinct and are configured in the conf file separately. You can also just use the --no-tui to use the legacy cli mode inherited from aider

Using the '--no-tui' option, now I can use the same key binding as in Aider.

From today onwards, I'll be switching to "Cecli".
