With the current Linux ecosystem, we cannot uphold the security model we originally strived for. This lowers the requirements for attacks from root privileges to unsandboxed user session privileges, while maintaining a goal to require escalation above user session privileges when feasible.
Lowering the security model will help us move forward an quite a few features that provide greater defenses against other attacks that are more common to users, like phishing attacks via the web and availability issues due to not being able to easily use synced passkeys.
