6.22.0 (2026-08-08)

Features

* Implement support for Tcl/Tk 9 builds with embedded data archives in
  ``tkinter`` hooks and the splash screen. Tcl/Tk 9 with embedded data
  is used, for example, in python.org Windows builds of Python 3.15.0b3.
  (:issue:`9470`)
* Use portable path separators (always forward slashes) in generated spec files.
  (:issue:`8004`)

Bugfix

* (Linux) Fix regression that prevented automatic collection of Wayland
  shared libraries that are bundled with ``pywayland`` binary wheels.
  (:issue:`9430`)
* Fix :class:`ValueError` build error on Windows if :option:`--specpath` is set
  to a different drive. (:issue:`8116`)
* Fix backslash mishandling of some CLI options (``--contents-directory``,
  ``--resource``). (:issue:`9472`)

Hooks

* Add hooks for ``gi.repository.Soup`` and ``gi.repository.Spelling``.
  (:issue:`9491`)
* Rework the standard and run-time hook for ``_tkinter`` so that error
  about missing Tcl/Tk data directories is raised at build time rather
  than at run time. (:issue:`9470`)
* Update the ``matplotlib.backends`` hook to automatically collect dist
  metadata for backends that are discovered via ``matplotlib.backend``
  entry point (Matplotlib >= 3.9). (:issue:`9469`)
* Update the ``matplotlib.backends`` hook to obtain the list of available
  Matplotlib backends from the new backends registry, if available
  (Matplotlib >= 3.9). Fixes compatibility with Matplotlib >= 3.11, which
  removed the old list of available backends that was superseded by the
  backends registry. (:issue:`9467`)
